What Do Weed Seeds Look Like?
Mature marijuana seeds tend to be dark brown and tear-dropped, with dark stripes or splotches of various brown, black or tan shades. Pale or green seeds are less mature. Big, fat rounded seeds are more likely to yield healthy plants than smaller ones.
Seeds can be male, female or both sexes (hermaphrodite). Female seeds are the ones that yield the best marijuana for consumption, but it is impossible to determine sex by looking at the seeds.
Difficult to see, weed seeds grow beneath the buds on the plant, squeezed between the plant matter and the main stem. The young seeds are protected by a white-green cellulose sheath that will wither and fall off when the seed matures.
The size of the marijuana seed differs quite a bit according to variety. Generally speaking, indica strains produce larger seeds with obvious striping. Sativa seeds tend to be a smaller with a more uniform color.
