Is Smoking Weed Everyday Bad?
Angel on Your Shoulder:
“While Marijuana does have many positive effects, smoking it on a daily basis can expose a user to undesirable health ramifications. Brain scans have shown that chronic cannabis use will decrease the volume of grey matter in the brain’s orbitofrontal cortex.
This is the part of the brain that governs decision making and mental processing. If damaged, psychopathy and other serious personality disorders can ensue. In order to compensate for this, the white matter of the brain, which is responsible for connecting its different parts, expands and replenishes the depletion of vital cells. This, however, is only temporary, and with persistent weed use, it too will break down.
Another unfortunate side effect of daily weed use is the statistical probability of forming an addiction. According to a study at King’s College in London, the addiction rate for cannabis is one in six for teenagers and one in ten for adults. It is also noteworthy that teens who smoke every day are at high risk for developing psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia and performing worse than their non-smoking counterparts in academia.
Daily use of cannabis also statistically doubles the risk of a car accident. As a likelihood, this increases substantially if the motorist has also had even one drink. For expectant mothers, smoking marijuana each day while pregnant has been shown to reduce the baby’s birth weight.”
Devil on Your Shoulder:
“Smoking weed everyday rocks man! A Boston Medical Center study done with the Boston University of Medicine studied 589 daily weed users, and determined that they were no more likely to visit their doctors than their non-smoking counterparts. How bad could it really be?!
It’s also a natural pain reliever that can wipe away aches and discomforts associated with things like menstruation and nerve damage with only three puffs. Do you have arthritis? Does it bother you every day? Good news! Cannabis has been shown to help the body fight off joint inflammation.
Say, do you have a weight problem? Good news! The American Journal of Medicine shows that daily weed smokers have smaller waist circumferences on average. Just avoid the munchies and you should be A-okay. Do you like to eat sweets? Are you a diabetic? Well good! Because that same American Journal of Medicine found that regular weed smokers had lower insulin levels and better carbohydrate metabolism than non-users. That’s right. Pot can regulate your blood sugar.
The Verdict:
It would appear that smoking weed every day has several risks but also many health benefits. For a person with a serious health condition that causes them chronic pain on a daily basis, frequent marijuana use might very well be worth the risk of its adverse side effects. For a recreational user looking for a good time? Perhaps moderation is for the best.
