MMPR Definition

Marijuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR) is a set of guidelines enacted concerning the production, distribution, and use of medical marijuana. It was implemented to replace the now outdated Marijuana Medical Access Regulations (MMAR); due to concerns that this previous execution of marijuana law could be easily abused by citizens seeking cannabis without legitimate needs. With the MMPR in full effect, it now treats marijuana like any other narcotic use for medical purposes by creating conditions for a new commercial industry that is responsible for its production and distribution; promoting quality control, secure and sanitary conditions for production, and strengthening safety for Canadian communities. This means that individuals seeking medical marijuana would need a prescription from a doctor, and can only purchase medical marijuana from commercial growers who are licensed by Heath Canada. However, due to the outcry of some individuals affected by the decision to move from MMAR to MMPR, Health Canada announced the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR) to replace MMPR. The ACMPR incorporates the MMPR with similar cultivation regulations seen within the former MMAR.
