Extraction Definition
Extraction in the cannabis community often refers to the extraction of cannabinoids from marijuana leaves for the production of cannabis oil/concentrate. The extraction process is done using a solvent, such as butane or ethanol, which carries the risk of being toxic and highly flammable to whoever is making it. The main cannabinoid sought after when performing an extraction is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) for its psychoactive effects; however, another cannabinoid that can also be isolated though extraction is CBD (cannabidiol), which practically lacks any psychoactive effects and has a general lack of negative side effects. Instead, CBD shows promise for a wide spectrum of medical applications, including the treatment of epilepsy, psychosis and depression.
